Strong winds almost blew away roofs in the Cagayan province, the Philippines during tropical storm Kompasu, which has killed at least nine people.

Resident Joy Salvador Cariaga said: ‘I saw the roofs being blown away by the strong wind and the roof of my aunt’s house was damaged.

‘Fortunately, they put a rope on it last night. Many electric poles have also been knocked down due to the force of the wind and we are currently without a power supply.’

Kompasu, locally known as Maring, is expected to exit the Philippines on Tuesday (October 13) morning and will head to China’s Hainan province where it will make landfall.

It is the second cyclone to hit the country this October leaving at least nine dead and 11 others missing due to flash floods while forcing the evacuations of thousands in the Luzon island.
