A drive through southern India's flood-hit Kerala state on Sunday (October 17) shows an overflowing river and extensive damage to properties.

The video was filmed in Koottickal town, which lies at the base of Western Ghats mountain ranges in the Kerala's Kottayam district.

At least 24 people have died in the floods, triggered by heavy rains that have caused landslides in hilly areas of Kerala.

The National Disaster Response Force and the Indian Army have been deployed to help with rescue efforts, AP reported.

As many as 30 people died in Kerala as floods, triggered by heavy rains and landslides in hilly areas of several districts of southern India state of Kerala wreaked havoc in the state. so far Fourteen deaths were reported from the Kottayam district and eight from Idukki.

Footage filmed on 17th Oct shows the extensive damages and overflowing rivers. Teams from the National Disaster force, Army, Airforce, and Kerala police are carrying out the rescue operations to recover the bodies and to find the missing persons. Over a dozen people are still missing from this incident. Search operations are underway for the missing persons in the debris.
