Woman tracks down couple she captured dancing together on train platform after video went viral with 2.4m views
A couple who unwittingly went viral with their romantic dance on a train platform have been reunited with the woman who filmed them after the clip was viewed over 2.4 million times.
The young couple were captured sharing a moment at Falkirk Grahamston Station by Gillian Lamarra, who happened to be sat in the train opposite at around 4pm on 18 September.
Uploading the video to her TikTok, Gillian wrote: “Today I was on the train and looked out to see this.
“It made me happy so I had to capture this moment.”
Just a day later, the couple came forward, filming a response video of them watching the clip and revealing their identities as Matt, 19, and Megan, 19, who are both students at the University of Edinburgh.
“We were heading to a ceilidh dance at university and so we were doing some lovely practice”, Matt told Jam Press.
“We met a year ago on October 13 in Edinburgh at University.”
The video was a hit all around the world gaining 2.4 million views and 372,000 likes, with people from the UK, Malaysia and the Philippines delighting in the couple’s sweet dance.
Gillian, who filmed the clip, told Jam Press: “I was on the way back from Edinburgh with my son. We went through for the day from Glasgow.
“Our train had stopped to let people on, I looked over to see the couple dancing and thought it was so cute. They were so happy and clearly in love."
“I normally wouldn’t agree with filming anyone but I think it depends on the reasoning behind it.
“There was no malice, judgment or ill intention, it was genuinely recorded for a nice reason.”
Gillian was delighted to make contact with Matt and Megan and was glad they were able to see the heartwarming moment.
She said: “Never in a million years did I think we would find the couple after sharing the video.
“When it hit 90k, Matt reached out to say he had seen it so I asked him to duet it.
“We have spoken a few times since. I offered to take it down and he said he was fine and found it funny.
Social media users shared their reaction to the clip, with one writing: “It’s like it’s just them in their own little world.”
Another person wrote: “This is lovely! My partner would push me under a train before he’d do this with me.”
One user commented: “I actually love this!! Well done for capturing something positive in such a rubbish world!”
One person added: “The way he throws his head back and laughs pure happiness.”
Another person replied: “It’s the fact that they are BOTH happy.”
Gillian added: “I think the video received attention also because the last video at Falkirk station was a bunch of guys fighting, so it was a refreshing change."
