This is the adorable moment a beloved professor walked in on a surprise party thrown by his students - that even had his favourite cheesecake.

The students of Dr. Kenneth Claus had organised food, drinks and a special birthday-cake hat to celebrate their favourite teacher's 75th birthday.

Dr Claus was overjoyed when he walked in to lecture on 'Survey of World Religions' at Miami Dade College in Miami, Florida, USA on the morning of November 5 2020.

Student Anaïs March, 20, helped organise the bash that also celebrated that it had been over 30 years since her professor had his heart transplant.

Anaïs said: "We loved him, this was a morning class and he happened to have a way to wake us up and have us laughing by 10am.

"He is a genuinely good-humoured and passionate professor with life-experience that shapes this dynamic course.

"Dr. Claus made the lectures so engaging and sprinkled with his witty remarks.

"His pure joy was expressed with him humour, and he didn’t stop smiling for the rest of class, not that this was too out of character.

"We sang happy birthday, enjoyed the cheesecake and refreshments, and listened to him chat about his life through small analogies or happenings he’d often remark."

Anaïs managed to record the moment the professor walked into the room and uploaded it to Twitter, which quickly went viral.

The anthropology student said: "I was overwhelmed and so happy to read all of the lovely comments that would flow in from students that had had him before, students that wished they’d had him and others who just loved to see so much spontaneous joy.

"They next day I walked into class, my professor pointed at me with a serious expression and said 'What did you do?'

"Then he broke character and was laughing as he said how surprised he was when younger family members of other students would come up to him and say they had seen him going viral on Twitter.

"75 was a life achievement worth celebrating, especially for Dr. Claus who was somehow always more lively than most of his students."
