Darren Oostendorp, a former chef at top hotels in Cape Town, has brought Asian fusion food to Cape Town’s suburbs through his home based takeaway food business, D’s Noodle Bar. He prepares fused dishes such as stir fry, nachos and noodles.

Oostendorp started the business and has operated the business from home since 2018. He went into the private sector briefly but has had to operate the business full-time as unemployment in increased in South Africa’s tourism sector as a result go the Covid 19 lockdown and the associated economic slowdown.

Kyle Julies, a second time customer at D’s Noodle Bar, is so impressed with the food served up by Darren that he claims he doesn’t visit any other fast-food joint in the Strandfontein areas.

Strandfontein is a middle income working class neighbourhood bordered by Mitchells Plain, the largest working class area in Cape Town, with more than one million residents.
