Hundreds of truck drivers protested against rising diesel prices in Thailand on October 19.

Footage shows the truckers forming a five-mile-long tail-back in Samut Prakan on the outskirts of Bangkok.

Vehicles displayed signs with messages such as ‘oil price increases are killing people’ and ‘stop expensive oil’.

Campaigners are calling on the government to freeze fuel prices amid fears the rise in costs could hit the economy, which is already suffering from the devastating effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on tourism.

Dr Thongyu Kongkhan, Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Federation of Land Transport of Thailand, appeared at the rally and called on ministers to step in. He read out a list of five demands.

Global diesel prices have jumped to record highs in recent months due to a rise in the price of barrels of crude oil and rising demand for heating oil.
