Meet the creative mind behind ‘Severe Delays’ a mobile game inspired by the London Undergrounds delayed trains and drunk passengers.

David Kirchner from South West London describes his game as a mix of ‘The London Underground and Mario Kart’

Players take the tube driver’s seat and jump on different lines! This game is not meant to be realistic, and it includes a lot of inside jokes for London commuters.

Players can jump between different tube lines, explore all the branches of the Northern Line and can even drive the slow and squeaky Bakerloo line themselves.

The player must arrive safely at their destination without falling off the track! With each level it gets more challenging. This is not your average fruit slicing game.

By picking up more passengers and performing risky tube stunts the player can improve your high-scores.

The game which includes the hardships of the London Underground such as Engineering work and lack of air conditioning in fun and entertaining ways was developed by David using the ‘Unity’ engine as a side project while also working on visual effects for Hollywood Blockbusters ‘No Time to Die’ and ‘Marvel Studio’s The Eternals’.

The game has been met with incredibly positive critical reception and has had more than 50,000 downloads.

David said:

“Severe Delays”. It’s a mix of the London Underground and Mario Kart. “

“While on my commute I admired the London Underground.”

“All those different lines at different depths (especially in Bank) are quite impressive. It fascinates me how well the Tube runs considering how many people are using it.”

“I imagined how fun it would be if you could jump from one line to the other. Mario Kart as a non-realistic racing game was one of the main inspirations.”

This compilation was created on the 21st October 2021.
