Diners can play the Squid Game cookie challenge to try and win a free lunch at a cafe in Thailand.

Footage shows locals trying to successfully cut shapes out of the sugar ‘dalgona’ biscuits at the ShobPro eatery in Bangkok on October 21.

Players in the hit Netflix show are punished by being shot in the head if their cookie breaks. However, diners at the cafe are treated to a free lunch if they chisel out the shape of a square, circle, triangle or umbrella – the hardest of all four.

Cafe manager Lalidanot Chailert said that the shop had become busier since they introduced the Squid Game promotion.

She said: ‘The show is really popular so we wanted to get involved with the trend and make something fun for people to join in with.’

The South Korean Netflix drama Squid Game tells the story of hundreds of participants struggling with debt who compete in a series of children’s games with a gruesome twist to win the final 45.6 billion won (38.7 million USD) prize.

The series was released on September 17 and received an overwhelming response from viewers worldwide but it has also been criticised for showing violence and gore.

Many businesses around the world have run Squid Game style promotions to ride the wave of popularity.
