At least 10 people were swallowed up when a sinkhole opened beside a candy store in northern India earlier this week after two days of heavy rain.

CCTV footage shared with permission from the shop owner captured in the Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh on October 18 showed customers and the shop owner falling into the hole as the ground gave way beneath their feet. Other heavy-looking items from the store also fall into the sinkhole.

Locals gathered around and worked to haul them from the crater one by one.

There were no reports of major injuries.

According to the shop owner, heavy rains had flooded a nearby drain and likely eroded the ground outside the business.

Heavy-duty machinery was later used to retrieve the shop items, including a refrigerator and a glass cabinet.

A big sudden sinkhole happened right at the entry of sweet shop , more than 10 persons which includes shop customers and shop owner fell into the sinkhole , a refrigerator there at shop and glass almirah also fell into the sinkhole , according to sweet shop owner there was heavy rain from last 2 days and there was a drain on the side of shop which was overflowing , owner presumed that due to erosion this happened , due to rain we were transferring almirah into shop and 5-6 people came at the same time at same place , so due to pressure it fell down .
Though no one get major injuries , the moment sinkhole happened nearby people ran to rescue them and pulled them up one by one .
Later JCB machine was called to pull out the shop belongings . Full incident captured into the cctv footage installed there at Sitaram sweet shop which is located at Nizamabad road near RTO office .
Owner tells due to this incident he has to bear 5 lakh rupees loss
