A visitor to a national park in Sri Lanka captured the rare moment a wild leopard and a bear got into an intense face-off.

Footage captured on October 17 in Kumana National Park shows the two large mammals staring each other out.

Neither the big cat nor the sloth bear appears to want to risk injury by starting a fight and eventually the latter slopes off into the jungle.

The survival of the fittest theory came to life when two animals began to engage in a violent fight in Sri Lanka's Eastern Province on October 17. The incident took place at the Kumana National Park.

Visuals feature the black bear appearing out of the woods and approaching the leopard prowling in the vicinity. As soon as the bear comes closer to the leopard, it stands on its hind legs while the big cat attempts to scare it away. After a bit of brawl, the fuzzy mammal drifts apart into the forest cover, leaving the carnivore behind.

In the animal kingdom, the battle over territory, food, or a mate can often turn out to be brutal and violent. However, bears and leopards are thoroughly built to withstand such incredible brawls and collisions in the forest. Moreover, it was the first such fight witnessed at Kumana National Park.
