Stranded dogs were rescued from a flood after heavy rain in northeast Thailand

Nabruce Lee filmed the pack of strays trapped behind a wall as rising floodwaters surrounded them in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima on October 20 afternoon.

Video shows the dogs swimming through the flood and trying to climb up the wall while they awaited help.

They were reportedly stuck inside the swamped yard for hours before the local rescue team was notified to retrieve them.

Ten rescue volunteers arrived and attempted to catch the frightened strays that scattered and swam away. It took an hour of careful coaxing before the dogs allowed themselves to be carried to safety.

Nabruce said: ‘The dogs must have been frightened floating in the water as it was even higher than my knees. They were fortunately rescued before it was too late.’

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.

Thailand suffers from regular flash floods due to the chronic under-investment in its city infrastructure, with drains and sewers overwhelmed with water.
