China’s Government has published its national plan on greenhouse gas emissions on the eve of the COP 26 climate summit.

In the plan, known as a nationally determined contribution, emissions would peak by 2030 and then be reduced to net zero three decades later. China is responsible for 27 per cent of global emissions, emitting more greenhouse gas than the entire developed world combined.

An aerial video taken on Oct. 22 shows the exterior of Huaneng Power Plant in Huai 'an city, East China's Jiangsu province. In the domestic power generation mode, coal-fired power generation mode, the electricity generated accounted for more than 70 percent of the total electricity generation. The main reason for the shortage of electricity is the soaring price of energy materials and the rising cost of electricity.

In the runup to the COP 26 climate change conference in Glasgow in November, China has said it plans to build more coal-fired power plants. Earlier this month Chinese premier Li Keqiang highlighted the need for a regular energy supply after parts of the country were plunged into darkness by blackouts that hit factories and homes. China has been hit by the soaring price of materials and the rising cost of electricity.
