An elephant, which was taking part in a religious procession, ran into a crowd after someone lit crackers. As the crowd fled on time, no one was injured, and a stampede situation was averted. The incident occurred at Srirangapatna in the state of Karnataka during Dasara festivities, which is a major religious event in these parts. The captive elephant named Gopalswami was known to get terrified by the crackers and hence its mahuts had requested the crowd to refrain from bursting them. But a few people still went  ahead and burst crackers terrifying the elephant with the noise. Gopalswami’s mahuts pacified him  immediately and the elephant was taken off the procession.
