An investigation has been launched by police after ‘at least four officers’ were injured after a fight between Coventry and Derby football fans.

The fight broke out during yesterday (Sat) around 4.30pm during Coventry City’s home game against Derby County at the Ricoh Arena.

Shocking footage shows fans climbing over a segregated area of the arena between home and away fans, which was lined with ground security and police.

According to West Midlands Police, who tried to break up the fight in the stand, ‘at least four officers were injured’ and with one needing hospital treatment for a dislocated shoulder.

The other three officers suffered only minor injuries.

A 23-year-old man, Brandon Mall of Coventry, West Mids., has been charged with affray and is due before Coventry Magistrates Court tomorrow (Monday). He remains in police custody.

As fans left a further disorder took place outside the stadium, which officers brought under control and the crowd was dispersed.

Assistant Chief Constable Jayne Meir, said: "While the vast majority of football fans attend matches to enjoy the game, it is wholly unacceptable that officers get injured during violence like that seen yesterday.

"A full investigation is under way in partnership with the club and those found to have taken part in the disorder face prosecution and a lifetime ban from matches."
