A Sumatran tiger amazed residents when it appeared on farmland in Indonesia on October 20.

The rare tiger sighting became a public spectacle as locals tried to record it from a close distance using their phones in South Aceh, Aceh Province.

Video shows the wild beast sitting in the middle of a thicket and snarling as residents approached it without fear, coming very close to the large cat. Other animals whose population status is critical were also seen walking and sitting not far from the enthralled villagers.

Hadi Sofyan, head of the Subulussalam Regional Natural Resources Conservation Center, said: ‘It’s a wild tiger. It appeared in a plantation in the Gampong Simpang area.’

He added that officers are currently still on standby around the location of the tiger’s appearance. His party appealed to the public to be vigilant, and not to approach again if the tiger reappeared.
