Residents helped stranded motorists to cross through flooded roads during severe flooding in the Philippines.

The riders were stranded when their vehicles stalled in the downpour but heroic locals helped them to get through the deluge on October 23.

Onlooker Clarina Isagan filmed the locals using a makeshift wooden raft to tow two motorcycles across knee-deep muddy torrent after heavy rain in the town of Banga in Aklan province.

She said: ‘It’s always like this here when it rains.

‘We have no choice but to endure, pray and be ready for everything that happens. That includes helping our neighbors, especially stranded drivers.

‘We really want the government to improve the roads and bridges in the area so it is safer when there is rain.’

The Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are at the peak of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until late November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods which cause rivers to flow faster and become dangerous.

Many of the under-developed nations struggle to cope with the heavy rain due to under-investment infastructure.
