Bunny rescued from fur farm where owners used to pull out his hair to sell
This tiny bunny was rescued from a fur farm where his hair was being forcibly YANKED from his body to sell.
Angora rabbit Jude had lived in a tiny hutch in a basement for two years, where the only physical contact he had was when the farmers came to pull out his fur.
In March 2020, staff at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary in High Falls, New York, USA, rescued the abused bunny and another, named Doyle, from the hellish conditions.
Angora wool is much softer and luxurious than sheep's wool, and can fetch over £7 per ounce, when sheep's wool costs about £2 per ounce.
Now, just a year-and-a-half after being freed from his traumatising life, little Jude is now 250g heftier and charming the sanctuary staff.
Lizz Truitt, from the Sanctuary, said: "Imagine having someone rip your hair from your head repeatedly.
"When we first met Jude and Doyle, their fur was extremely matted and knotted, they were underweight, and terrified.
"They had never received medical care before or interacted with compassionate humans.
"We were able to comb and trim their fur to be gentler on their bodies, introduce them to the other rescued rabbit residents, provide medical care, and show them what love and kindness truly is.
"Once a shivering, neglected rabbit, Jude is now very gregarious and kind.
"He loves to come say hello when you stop by his hutch, and will cuddle with your boots and legs.
"He loves to be fed his favourite snack, dandelion greens, and receives a healthy hair brushing or hair trim from the caregivers when necessary.
"His tiny but mighty presence continues to win people’s hearts while educating them on the truth about the fur industry."
The footage was filmed in May 2021.
