Knee-deep water floods roads in the Philippines due to monsoon
Knee-deep waters flooded the roads of Quezon province in the Philippines after monsoon rains were intensified by a low pressure area in the Intertropical Convergence Zone.
Video filmed by resident Myla Aguila shows the floodwater inundating streets in San Francisco town on October 25. She and her family had to sweep the water out after it had breached their home.
Myla said: ‘We’re fine. The water subsided after the rain let up last night. But other areas were heavily flooded when a river near the town overflowed.’
The Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
