'Terrifying footage has emanated from Italy, which shows a tandem paragliding flight almost ending on a horrific note.

The instructor, Alexander Campagna, and the passenger were expecting a safe landing when a structural failure caused things to go wrong, forcing an abnormal increase in the descent rate.

"Fortunately, I was able to open up a backup parachute in time and it saved both of our lives," Alexander wrote. "Otherwise, the consequences could have been catastrophic. The video shows how little time one has in these kinds of situations to react; a delay of a few seconds could have dire consequences."

The filmer also revealed that despite the rough landing, the paragliders weren't hurt badly and escaped with minor bruises.
