Two of the three rare Indian softshell turtles caught in a fishing net got feasted upon in central India's Madhya Pradesh on October 27. The incident took place in Chopna village in Ghoradongri, located in the Betul district.

Visuals feature the official holding the lone turtle in his hands. The little creature extends its head out, following which it hurriedly pulls it back inside the shell. Meanwhile, the police officials pose with the accused, following which they reveal the details of the case.

Caught in a net during fishing in the Narmada river, the locals ate two softshell turtles while one another got rescued. Upon being alerted, the forest department officials arrived at the spot and retrieved one turtle and the skin of the others from the accused.

During interrogation, it came to light that the accused Namita Sarkar and her brother smuggled the turtles believing that consuming them cures tuberculosis. However, a case has been registered against them under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972, and further investigation is underway.
