Okinawa and the surrounding area in Japan have been affected by a huge amount of pumice stones that are believed to be washed ashore by an eruption in August of the Fukutokuokanoba submarine volcano in the Ogasawara Islands.

Okinawa prefectural government began to remove stones on October 29, after reports of damage, including the affection of fishing operations due to the mass death of fish that swallowed pumice stones by mistake.
