Power outages, rain and registration challenges affect local elections in South Africa

As the local government election day draws to a close, Western Cape Provincial electoral officer Michael Hendrickse updated media on the latest developments in South Africa on November 1.

At 5 pm the voter turnout was just over 26% with numerous voting stations running into power issues and voter registration confusion.

Hendrickse explained that re demarcation of wards and cable theft led to issues but the Independent Electoral Commission averted further issues

Polling stations close at 9 pm and at some polling stations cues of people are waiting to cast their ballot.
