The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord is the pearl of Kizhi, a wooden structure, impressive in splendor and built only with the help of an axe. Nails were not even used in the construction. The church is one of the best examples of world folk architecture and demonstrates the pinnacle of carpentry. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The appearance of the Transfiguration Church is monumental and whimsical. Its pyramidal silhouette, when viewed closely, flows with numerous bends of domes, barrels, valances and crosses.
