60% of ballots counted, DA holds strong lead in the mother City, ANC calls for active Citizenry

The ballot count for the Local Government elections in Cape Town has reached the 60% mark with the Democratic Alliance holding a firm lead over the Cape Metropole. Many small municipalities on the outskirts of the Cape have ended in hung councils with noi clear winner.

It is projected that the final announcement for the outcome will be made by eleven am tomorrow.

With many smaller parties and independent candidates standing for office vote splitting is a common occurrence. Carl Pophaim is confident they will with hold their majority in the City of Cape Town.

Low voter turnout in this election is attributed to weather and the placement of the date according to analysts, Cameron Dugmore from the African National Congress ius calling for active citizenry which includes regular community engagement
