Over 100 countries at COP26 on November 2 have pledged to end deforestation by 2030, a controversial industry that has left the orangutan on the brink of extinction.

File footage from April 2018 shows several orangutans swinging from tree to tree in Tanjung Puting National Park, Indonesia.

An Indonesian conservation society said: "Climate change causes drastic changes to weather patterns, which can increase the risk of forest fires.

"It makes it harder, or even impossible, for many of the diverse species in the rainforest to survive. This can cause ecosystem collapse, which would leave orangutans in a dangerous position.”

Both the Sumatran and Bornean orangutans are listed as "critically endangered" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
