An inspirational dad has set a new Guinness World Record by completing the longest-ever triathlon without breaks.

Dad of two Ian Lambert, 37, smashed the Guinness world record for the longest single-event triathlon by a wapping 40 miles on September 4 and 5.

Ian's run, swim and cycle combined to an epic 220 miles: beating the previous Guinness World Record of 180 miles.

Inspirational Ian, who said he could hardly run a mile three years ago, crossed the north of the UK in over a day of non-stop exercise, taking 29.5 hours to complete the event.

Modest Ian, a construction-company owner from Newcastle on Tyne said: “It was beautiful.

“I’m quietly very pleased with myself, but I’ve never been that tired before.

"I'm not an athlete and I never imagined I'd finish a World-record triathlon.

“I genuinely didn’t know if I’d complete it, and there’s a lot of pressure when people have given you a lot of money for it.

“It was a bit of an eating challenge as well as a fitness one: I had to do a lot of training to eat while I was running"

Strong Ian prepared for ten months, all outdoors, including four to five hour swims in lakes in springtime, and training up to 20 hours a week.
