Climate activist Greta Thunberg told a mass rally in Glasgow on Friday (November 5) that the COP 26 climate summit has been "a failure."

Greeted like a rock star by a large crowd on a day that reportedly saw the biggest climate change protest yet since COP 26 began, Thunberg hailed Friday's day of protest as "a great day" but then struck a sombre note.

"It is not a secret that COP 26 is a failure," she told the large crowd that had gathered in George Square. "It should be obvious that we cannot solve a crisis with the same methods that got us into in the first place. And more and more people are starting to realise this. Many of us are starting to ask ourselves, ‘What will it take for the people in power to wake up?’"

Decrying "business as usual," she accused the leaders of the world of "actively creating loopholes and shaping frameworks to benefit themselves."

Earlier Thunberg, from Sweden, joined thousands of young people including some school pupils on strike for a march through Glasgow. The march was organised by the Thunberg-inspired Fridays for Future Scotland.
