Two workers on a drainage repair project in Indonesia were crushed to death by landslide material.

The victims were Jodi (27) and Heri (33) respectively.

The victim's colleague, Joni (34), said that earlier at around 3:00 p.m. Monday, November 8, he and three other workers were at the bottom of the drainage with a depth of about three meters.

Suddenly there was a rumbling sound on the ground above the drainage dig.

Joni and another worker survived the landslide, while the two victims were trapped by a drainage wall which was pushed by the landslide and did not have time to save themselves.

"We were at the bottom of the drainage when the landslide happened. My friends are screaming 'Oi watch out..' It's already a landslide, and they didn't have time to go up," Joni said.

The victims evacuated after heavy equipment was lowered to the scene.

The deputy mayor of Bukittinggi, Marfendi Ma'had, said the high rainfall had made the soil above the drainage unstable, causing landslides.
