This is the dramatic moment rescue teams saved a young boy who was caught in the middle of a raging river stranded on a rocky island during floods in Malaysia.

The 12-year-old boy was taking a bath in the Dipang River in Perak State with two of his friends when the water level swelled and swept him onto the rocks on November 5 afternoon.

Authorities said the boy’s friends managed to escape before they were caught in the deluge of bad weather, which lead to rapids and torrents of muddy water.

Azmi Osman, director of the Perak Fire and Rescue Department, said: ‘When rescue workers arrived at the scene, they found a 12-year-old child trapped in the middle of the river.

‘In addition to installing rescue equipment such as ropes and towing devices, officers had to calm the boy down first.’

Video shows the team securing a line to pull the trapped boy to safety. It took over an hour to complete the rescue operation.

Meanwhile, Osman appealed to residents who work near rivers to be more careful during the rainy season in Malaysia, as water levels can rise very suddenly and catch them off guard.

Malaysia and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
