An animal rescue team evacuated a 9-foot-long snake that was sheltering from the rain near a house in Bukittinggi, Indonesia.

Local resident Nurhayati, 73, said the snake appeared when it was raining at the location.

"Usually the snakes that come here come from around the cemetery in the hills behind the house," he said.

Animal rescuer Irfan Efendi said that the non-venomous rat-eating snake was likely searching for a warmer location.

"We did not find any scars on the snake's body, so it is feasible to immediately release it to its habitat far from settlements," Efendi said.

The rain sent snakes from the cemetery complex to the local homes in Indonesia.

Footage filmed in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra province on November 2, shows rescuers from the Bukittinggi Reptile Animal Community (B-Reptanic) unloading a pile of belongings next to a house suspected of hiding a snake.

The snake was first seen on the side of the road, the snake was up the stairs and across the front yard to the side of the house.

"Usually the snakes that come here come from around the cemetery in the hills behind the house," Nurhayati said.

A 3-meter-long snake, black with white stripes, was successfully removed from under the pile.

Animal rescuer Irfan Efendi said a non-venomous rat-eating snake is thought to be cold when it rains in its habitat, so it goes to a residential area to find a warmer place.

"We did not find any scars on the snake's body, so it is feasible to immediately release it to its habitat far from settlements," Irfan said.
