Climate activists chanted and waved banners calling for the adoption of the Climate Justice charter by the South African government.

A memorandum of demands and a copy of the Charter was handed to a representative from the South African Parliament. This is the second handover to parliament is as many years.

Activist , Charles Simanye says that the current energy crisis in the country can be solved by renewable technology. South Africa is currently experiencing rolling blackouts daily. Some Areas being without electricity collectively for over 6 hours.

Vishwa Sadka from the Climate Justice charter says COP26 is a failure and South Africa has not locked in to the phase out of coal by 2030 proposed by the United Kingdom.

The protest takes place as Africa Energy Week commenced in the city.
