This is the moment a surfer was attacked by a shark in the waters of Ponce Inlet in Florida.

Footage captured on September 9 by Sam Scribner shows a local named Doyle paddling out when the shark strikes.

He manages to fend off the shark but headed straight to the beach afterwards for treatment.

"I know that he received nine stitches in his upper right arm, and he said that it felt like somebody had run into him full speed," said Scribner.

"I'm not sure of what exact breed the shark is but I believe it's a blacktip somewhere between four to five feet attacking a surfer," he added.

On September 9th, Sam Scribner was on the beach trying to capture some surfers catch some waves when all of a sudden, a struggling surfer was trying to fend off a black tip shark trying to bite him.

The surfer, Doyle, managed to escape the grasps of the beast and headed straight out of the water where he found help for his wounds.

Sharks are common in the area and many surfers take the risk to catch the best waves at their own peril.
