A water pipe exploded, creating a huge fountain over a busy road in Thailand.

The pipe ruptured and sent a five-metre-tall geyser hitting a power line and drenching motorists in a road in Sattahip district, Chon Buri province on November 9.

A resident who drove past the cascading water said: ‘It happened at 7.30 AM. I heard a loud explosion then I saw water spraying everywhere. I later found out that the pipe broke.’

Sattahip Waterworks (East Water) said the explosion was caused by an ongoing expansion of the Sukhumvit road. They added that a team of technicians has been sent to expedite repairs.

Sattahip Waterworks Officer Pairote Polkan said: ‘The road expansion damaged the pipe. We are still repairing it, but the water supply in the area should return to normal by this evening.’
