Drivers with Uber, Bolt and other e-hailing services in Cape Town marched through the CBD to the gates of parliament to protest against what they allege are unfair commission rates and labour practices.

The drivers want the platforms to reduce their commission rates and have minimum fees per kilometre. They are also demanding that Uber abolish their “Go” option which is a cheap option for short distances.

Drivers handed over a memorandum of demands to representatives from South Africa’s departments of Labor and Transport. The departments have been given fourteen days to respond.

E-hailing drivers have also appealed to the City of Cape Town to stop impounding their vehicles. The drivers claim Cape Town is the only city in South Africa which impounds vehicles.
