Activists and indigenous groups protested in South Africa against Amazon's plans to build its African headquarters on land considered sacred to indigenous people.

The demonstrators, representing Khoi and San communities, held their protest outside the River Club in Observatory in Cape Town.

The American e-commerce giant plans to build on land currently occupied by the River Club, considered sacred by tribal groups.

Professor Leslie London from the Observatory Civic Association, says the City of Cape Town is contravening its own climate policies by approving plans to build such a project on a flood plain.

The crowd was addressed by representatives of various groups, while an indigenous cleansing ceremony was performed on the banks of the Liesbeeck River.
