Palestinian militant group show off new rocket launchers to cheering supporters
A Palestinian militant group displayed rocket launchers and machine guns in a show of strength to mark two years since a leader was killed.
The Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine – also known as Palestinian Islamic Jihad – organised the event for thousands of cheering supporters in the Gaza Strip on Friday night, November 13.
It was to mark the second anniversary of the death of Baha Abu Al-Atta, a senior commander of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, who supporters claim was ‘martyred’ alongside his wife in an Israeli airstrike on November 12, 2019.
During the ceremony, Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad, revealed new launchers bearing the name of the martyred leader Baha Abu Al-Atta.
Dr Mohamad Shallah, one of the leaders of the Jihadi movement who is also seen speaking in the video, said: ‘Our message in this festival is that we will remain in the era of Baha Abu al-Atta and follow his goals and his resistance to this Israeli occupation.
‘Our message to the Zionist enemy is that Baha Abu al-Atta and his successors will remain on the lookout for this enemy. The banner of Saraya al-Quds is present in all fields and they can deliver many victories over this enemy in many battles.’
The Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine formed in 1981 and is among six other factions, including Hamas, that are striving for the creation of a sovereign Islamic Palestinian state.
They are classed as a terrorist group by the United States, the United Kingdom, the EU, Australia, Canada and Israel among others.
