Extinction Rebellion organised a spontaneous rally outside Temple, where the Lord Mayor's Show afternoon session begins. They were seen bringing banners and chanting on the main roads, which caused delays to the parade. Police was seen gathering around the crowd and keeping them off the road.

The Lord Mayor's Show dates back to the early 13th century, when King John rashly allowed the City of London to appoint its own Mayor. Every year, the newly-elected Mayor tours the city in a golden carriage to swear loyalty to the Crown. This year, Alderman Vincent Keaveny was elected as the 693rd Lord Mayor of the City of London. The parade continues from Temple and marches back to Mansion House through St. Paul's.
