Cat lover in war-torn Gaza Strip makes his own salon for struggling felines
A cat lover transformed his own room into a salon to pamper struggling felines in the war-torn Gaza Strip.
Mohammed Al-Madhoun, 20, said the idea began when he started a cat sitting business in Gaza City, looking after his friends’ pets for a small fee.
His humble cat hotel-cum-salon venture grew when he took to social media and found a following among fellow cat lovers, who sent their beloved moggies to him to be groomed and spoiled.
At the Happy Cat salon, Mohammed’s furry clients receive the full spa treatment: a relaxing blow-drying session, a massage, an application of fur products, and a hair and nail trim.
Speaking in the video today, November 15, Mohammed said: ‘I take care of the cats, comb their fur, give them a massage. I opened the cat salon at home as a simple and principled idea.
‘There are customers who come to my house to drop off their cats. Or sometimes, I go and pick up the cats, then return them after they’ve been taken care of.’
Today, the salon is Mohammad’s main source of income. However, the cat barber said he still faces certain difficulties despite his considerable social media presence.
He said: ‘My tools are primitive and my salon is located inside a house, not on a public street.’
The cat barber himself is fur parent to 25 cats, both imported and local, which he keeps in a shelter outside his home. He added that he sometimes breeds the felines to sell to would-be cat owners.
Mohammed’s home is in Gaza City in the Gaza Strip. The area in the State of Palestine has been the scene of military and terrorist conflict for a number years amid a dispute with Israel over territory and religion.
