Hamas militants display weapons to commemorate slain commander
Hamas militants in Palestine organised an exhibition to commemorate one of their slain commanders.
The Islamic Bloc, the student arm of the Hamas movement, displayed replicas of hand grenades, long-range missiles, tanks, drones, and rifles in Gaza City, Gaza Strip on the 9th death anniversary of Ahmed al-Jabari, former commander of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades which is Hamas’ military wing.
Jabari was killed in November 14, 2012, when an Israeli missile struck a car he was riding.
Exhibition supervisor Abdel Latif Zagra said the event had multiple goals, one of which was to expose the students to the resistance movement.
He said: ‘We held this exhibition in memory of the martyrdom of General Abu Muhammad al-Jabari, and in memory of the Sejil War. Of course, this exhibition has many goals. The first goal is to link the students to the resistance.’
He added that the exhibit showed the advancements of science and industrialisation, which resulted in the military hardware they were showcasing.
The Islamic fundamentalist Hamas movement, an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood, was formed in the late 1980s during the first Palestinian uprising against Israel.
Though known for its armed struggle against Israeli occupation, Hamas is also one of two major political powers in Palestine territories, in charge of millions of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Foreign powers such as the United States and the European Union have designated Hamas, which have launched suicide bombings and rocket attacks against Israel, as a terrorist organisation.
