Endless sea of SPIDER WEBS seen glistening in the autumnal sunshine
This incredible footage shows an endless sea of spider webs catching the autumnal sunshine in a field in Southern England.
Filmed by Nina Stevens, a 31-year-old Digital Marketing Manager, the footage shows a field she stumbled across near her hometown of Thakeham, West Sussex.
“I work from home so, as I’ve done throughout lockdown, I went for a lunchtime walk along the public footpaths through a local dairy farm. It was a bright, sunny day and I needed to stretch my legs - and I’m so glad I did!”
As a real nature-lover, the spectate ignited curiosity in Nina, who took to researching what she had seen as soon as she got home:
“Initially, I wondered if this was like the flying ants and thought maybe spiders had a certain day where they all work together, I’d just never been lucky enough to spot it before.
“It turns out it's called 'Sea of Gossamer Webs'. I believe it's done when a lot of money spiders work together to create webs so they can travel further than they would on foot.
“I think because it was such a calm day, they weren't destroyed by wind or rain. So, when the sun came out it reflected off of the dew-covered webs making a stunning, shimming sea on the grass.”
