Volunteers helped residents in COVID-19 quarantine take care of their pets in southern China.

A volunteer named Ms Zhang recorded the video in the city of Chengdu in Sichuan Province on November 16.

According to Ms Zhang, she has experience in taking care of pets. They put on protective clothing and disinfected themselves before going to 15 residents' flats to feed, change the water and clean up for their pets.

The pets were left home alone as their owners were in COVID-19 quarantine.

Since the owners were seeking help, three volunteers and one pandemic prevention worker formed a pet care team to help the owners take care of their animals.

The team leader Mr He said the number of pets who needed care is increasing and they will also look after stray dogs in the community.

The team currently needs more volunteers urgently and he hoped that more people can join the team to protect animals during the pandemic.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
