Around 200 protesters gathered in central Paris last night (November 17) to mark three years of the yellow vests movement.

Police broke up the demonstration in Chatelet-Les Halles as it was not authorised beyond 8 pm local time.

The protesters then marched through the streets upturning rubbish containers and chanting slogans against President Emmanuel Macron and the country's COVID certificate system or "passe sanitaire".

The yellow vests protests were a series of grassroots weekly demonstrations in France calling at first for economic justice and later for institutional political reforms.

The movement began November 17 2018.
