Driving through dense fog in Beijing as heavy pollution covers Chinese capital

This footage shows someone trying to drive through the dense fog that is cloaking China's capital, Beijing, on November 18.

The Beijing Municipal Meteorological Bureau issued an orange fog warning, the second-highest in its four-tiered colour-coded alert system.

In some districts, visibility dropped to as low as 100 metres.

According to Rhodium Group, a US leading independent research provider, China emitted 27% of the world's greenhouse gases in 2019,
more than the entire developed world combined.

In recent weeks, the country has increased its coal production to avert a looming power crisis. In October, its output rose to the highest since March 2015.

Following a deal struck at COP26 Climate Summit in Glasgow, China pledged to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
