Several protests in support of Giorgos Zantiotis and calling for police accountability have taken place across Germany on Saturday (November 20). Earlier this month, the 25-year-old Wuppertal resident died in police custody.

The official report stated drugs and alcohol as the cause of death, however, some claim the real reason to be police brutality.

Although Wuppertal police deny any wrongdoing, activists remain suspicious of the case and the perceived lack of transparency.

They point to the hundreds of deaths that have taken place in police custody over the last 30 years, particularly the disturbing death of Oury Jalloh in 2005.
