Testimony by Michele Silva, participant of the first trans church in Brazil
This footage was filmed and produced 22 November 2021.
Worship of the first trans church in Brazil that was inaugurated in downtown São Paulo. The service is given by Pastor Jacque Chanel who in addition to preaching the word of God has a chat with reflection, praise, prayer and social assistance for the transvestites, transsexual women and transgender men. At the end of the services, food is always provided to visitors and church members because some of them are homeless and live on the streets.
Interview translation: "My name is Michele Silva, I am 32 years old, I am a transsexual. Then I went to Jaque's church here for around five years. I am a transsexual woman from Fortaleza do Ceará.
I'm here in São Paulo for 7 years now and I came here to look for God, right, looking for God at Jaque's house looking for God himself, because we're in the middle of prostitution, but we're isolated from life at all society. So I came here looking for God, right, to seek spiritual peace because the street is difficult, it's a complicated thing, right. I'm not a whore, I'm a call girl, I'm a prostitute, right, a call girl. I work on the street.
I've been here for a long time in São Paulo, I came from Fortaleza, I live alone, I've never used any type of drug, I've been doing a program since I was 15 years old, I've never used drugs.
So I came here to seek spiritual peace from God, I managed to evolve here at Jaque Chanel's church, I managed to evolve more by opening my mind more because I was very closed.
I was closed to everything, until I started going to Jaque Chanel's services, I got smarter in some things, I became more human because I was very shy, I was very closed and very closed. Then I started going here 5 years ago and I became a better human, right? Looking to God for salvation, the word of God, that He is within the heart, that God is individual, that God is in the heart of each person.
I learned, here at Jaque Chanel's church, to be more human, to be more people because I was very closed off, I was very closed, I was like the Stone Age... then I came here and I was more open-minded . Thank God I'm here every Monday... I come because I like it here. I became more human, more human. I live with homeless people, I live with homeless people and that taught me to be more good people, because I saw that we are all human, we are all brothers, we are all children of God… Me, the homeless, street fag, the drug addict who is not drug addict, rich, poor... I think that everything is the same, we are all children of God. And I learned that, which was something I didn't know. I didn't know that, I didn't know that these street people, these faggots were all one family. Now they are all brothers, children of God and I learned a lot here at Jaque Chanel's church, because here they provide space for us to talk, for us to dialogue, for us to open up and express ourselves, speak from the heart, talk about life, talk about our daily lives… I learned a lot here… I attend here a lot and I think I want to attend longer. Here it is opening many doors for me, many doors for many fags as well because here it welcomes everyone and I didn't even know what inclusion was and everything is here, thanks to God, everyone with respect to others, life, history of each person each... each human being has his story, each human being has its problems, it has its flaws and we learn everything from each of their stories and their pains, which is wonderful and I will continue to attend here up to ten years if God willing."
