Israeli security forces clashed with Palestinian protesters in the West Bank town of Hebron on Friday 26 November.

Reports say one of the Israeli troops involved was lightly injured by a stun grenade thrown at him.

The Ibrahimi Mosque, located in the Israeli-controlled section of Hebron known as H2, is considered holy to both Muslims and Jews, who have separate prayer areas in it.

Jews call it the Tomb of the Patriarchs, while Muslims call it the Ibrahimi Mosque, after the patriarch Abraham.

A construction plan at the site has proved controversial with Palestinians, who believe it may pave the way for Jewish worshippers to take over the whole site.

Hebron is a divided city, with several hundred Jewish settlers living among over 180,000 Palestinians.

The Old City of Hebron was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2017.
