Farmers protesting at Ghazipur-Delhi Meerut Expressway marked the completion of a year of campaigning against India's new farm laws, on Friday 26 November.

They could also mark success in their campaign after Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently announced the repeal of the three controversial laws.

Rakesh Tikait, national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) spoke to the media at the Ghazipur protest site.

Thousands of farmers have camped near Delhi for the past year, several of them dying from illness, heat or cold during that time.

The law was designed to liberalise the farming sector, to the benefit of farmers and consumers alike. But many farmers distrusted it and said it could hurt their income.
