Life Crippled as Heavy Rain Lash Chennai again,Flooded Streets and Homes
Several areas in Chennai were inundated once again after heavy rains lashed the city on the night of Friday, November 26, and the early hours of Saturday, November 27. Chennai received 82.5 mm of rainfall up till 5.30 am on Saturday. Several parts of Chennai face severe waterlogging and traffic congestion due to heavy rainfall. Several residential colonies were marooned by rain waters and vehicular traffic was disrupted in most parts of Chennai, as several roads and residential localities have been marooned.
The weather department has warned of more rains issuing a red alert for several districts including Chennai.More than 20 districts in Tamil Nadu experienced continuous rains.The IMD predicted that the situation will remain the same for the next two days. In the next 24 hours, thunderstorms with heavy rain are likely to occur in Chennai and adjoining districts and heavy to very heavy rain is likely in the next 48 hours.
Two heavy spells in the earlier weeks of November had already caused havoc for residents in the city. During the Northeast Monsoon spell from October 1 till November 25, Chennai and adjoining districts of Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu received excess to large excess of rainfall—more than 56% and 67% respectively.
