Kurdish protest in Berlin ends in arrests after largely peaceful march
Kurdish and left-wing groups came together in Berlin to protest Germany's ban on the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the country's relationship with Turkey on Saturday (November 27). The PKK is designated as a terrorist group in Turkey and the EU, which Kurdish groups feel unfairly criminalizes their independence movement and restricts freedom of expression and movement.
The demonstration marched through Neukölln and Kreuzberg, home to Berlin's Turkish community. Upon reaching Oranienplatz, flares were let off despite being banned, causing police to move in. Clashes broke out between police and activists and several people were arrested.
