An abandoned newborn baby girl was found alive inside a shopping delivery bag in Indonesia.

The clothed infant, swaddled in a blanket, was discovered by residents of Sidoarjo Regency in East Java on November 20 after hearing it crying while they were out for a leisurely walk.

A letter, believed to be from its mother, wishing good health for the child was also found inside the container.

Buduran Police Chief Kompol Shamirin said: ‘The baby was found in a box bag right behind a stall selling drinks.’

Officers took the baby girl and brought it to the Buduran Health Centre for health check-ups. They are now searching for the child’s missing parents.

Shamirin said: ‘We are still conducting an investigation to find out who the perpetrators had the heart to throw away this baby girl.

‘The baby will be cared for by nurses and if the parents cannot be found, she will be taken to a care home and be adopted.’
